Lab setup preparation
Opening the virtual machines in VirtualBox
Before starting your course you will need to
download and open the virtual machine(s) that are required. The rest of the setup will be done together with the instructor in the setup video.
First, please
download the virtual machine(s) applicable to your course from the download page: http://www.duckademy.com/downloads
After downloading the OVA files we will import them into VirtualBox. For demonstration purposes we will use the Server12.ova file.
Start the VirtualBox
application – or any other virtualization software which supports OVA files - on your computer and choose File → Import Appliance from the menu.
(Free VirtualBox download:
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads)
Caution! You have to have the
VirtualBox Extension Pack installed to use the virtualized Intel Gigabit Ethernet cards. You can get it for free from the same location as VirtualBox itself.
On the right side of the pop-up window there's an icon with the message "
Choose a virtual appliance file to import...". Click on it.
Navigate to the folder where you downloaded the Server12.ova – Downloads by default on Windows computers. Select the file and
open it.
Then click on the "
Next" button.
Check that the settings are identical to the following and click on "
Import". (It is recommended to use at least 2048MB of RAM.)
Then wait for the importing to finish...
When it is ready you will see the following screen:
That's it!
Now we are set and you are ready to start your course.
Have fun and be tough!
